Eyebrows

We have all seen them. Those perfect brows with just the right arch that aren’t too thick and aren’t too thin. Was this person born with the perfectly shaped eyebrows? Chances are they weren’t and their makeup has become their secret weapon in creating those killer brows. Pencils, shadows, brushes and styling gel are all tools to creating the perfect brow.

The first thing you are going to do is determine what type of brow you have. Some people have luxuriously thick eyebrows that may not require as much filling in as they do taming. To tame your brow you are going to have to use a spooly. This brush is similar to a mascara wand and should be used to brush your eyebrows from the center of your nose to your ears. You may notice some hairs are much longer which will then require a slight trim with eyebrow scissors to make them uniform with the rest of your brow. Great brow scissors include the Eyebrow Trimmer/Brush from Sephora. It retails for under $25.

Once you have the unruly hairs under control you can begin to pluck and shape. Plucking can be a bit of an art because you don’t want to leave too much but you also don’t want to over-pluck. In order to prevent this from occurring use a white eyeliner pencil as a guide. By drawing on your desired shape with a white eyeliner you can get rid of all of the hair that do not fall into its drawn on shape. In order to get great brows you need the right tweezers. There are many different kinds of tweezers including slant-tipped and needle-nose tipped ones. For the thicker hairs you should use a slant-tip because it gives you greater leverage for plucking them out. For shorter new growth hairs you can use needle-nose tipped tweezers. Some of the best tweezers we have come across include Tweezerman and Sally Hansen which are available at most pharmacies.

Now that your plucking is complete you are going to want to fill in any patchy or bare spots. Choosing the right color eyebrow pencil will prevent you from having the look of drawn on eyebrows. If you are a redhead choose a sable color. If you are brunette choose one or two shades lighter than your hair. If you are a blonde choose the darkest brow hairs so that you can add shape and contrast. CoverGirl Brow and Eye Makers is a great pencil that goes on easy without any fuss. When filling in eyebrows use short strokes that would mimic the growth of hair. Do not press too hard, but rather gently glide the pencil. Eyebrow powders can also help to fill in eyebrows if you do not want the heaviness of a pencil. Choose an eyebrow powder the same way that you would select an eyebrow pencil color. Then simply brush on tiny stokes. If you have accidentally put on too much product keep a Q-tip and makeup remover handy for any corrections.

Once you have finished filling in your eyebrows look to use a clear eyebrow gel or even a small amount of hair gel. Gently brush the product over your eyebrows following the growth of the hair. This will help keep your eyebrows in perfect form all day. A great way to add some highlighting to your newly shaped brows is to select a slightly lighter shade of eyeshadow just under the eyebrows. This highlighting shadow can be beige or taupe for a daytime look. Beautiful eye shadows for highlighting effects include MAC and Revlon.

Now that your eyebrows are complete you will be amazed at the way they frame and shape your face.
